CIR M05/02: THE BAN ON HEAVY LORRIES ON ROADS DURING CHINESE NEW YEAR 2010

Heavy vehicles will be banned from ALL roads for FOUR days during Chinese New Year festival in 2010. The ban will take effect on February 12-13 and February 20-21, 2010. The ban is part of the efforts of Government to reduce road accidents during the balik kampung rush. The ban will only be applicable to all roads in Peninsular Malaysia and not in Sabah and Sarawak.

There are four different categories of restrictions in order to saw a reduction in the number of lorries on the road. The following is the details

Category 1:

(Total ban on road during this period)

  1. Lorries carried timber or construction materials such as cement, steel, gravel, iron and stone except permission in Category 3
  2. Cement mixer and other heavy vehicles

Category 2:

(Allowed to operate from 6am to 12am)

  1. Container and cargo lorries carrying electrical and electronic products
  2. Container and cargo lorries from the port to an airport of different origin

Category 3:

(Subject to the permitted operation hours on the permitted roads, allowed on road from 6am to 6pm at Klang Valley, Johor Bahru, Georgetown and Ipoh only)

  1. Concrete mixer truck
  2. Mobile cranes
  3. Tipper lorries

Category 4:

(Unrestricted)

  1. Vehicles carrying gas and chemicals to supply to the medial can chemical industry
  2. All containerized / cargo lorries to and from airport
  3. Container and cargo lorries from the port to an airport of same origin
  4. Cargo lorries carrying daily supplies (manufactured food and beverages, fruits, vegetables, raw products, newspapers and livestock)
  5. Vehicles carrying garbage or sewerage
  6. Small lorries d’controlled (Below BDM 5000kg)
  7. Container and cargo lorries between terminals in ports of same origin
  8. Container and cargo lorries to and from the same port and the warehouse and industrial areas near the port
  9. Tanker lorries carrying fuel like petroleum, diesel ,gas and LPG
  10. Lorries involved in Emergency and Rescue operations

We strongly urges those affected by the total ban should plan their logistics and supplies in advance to minimize any adverse impact the ban would have on their businesses and operations. We hope this information be able to help members and associates in some way or another.
