Participate in programmes, Kong urges SMEs

KUALA LUMPUR: Small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate in the programmes by the MCA ICT Resource Centre (MIRC), which aims to develop local SMEs to compete in the global market.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Kong Cho Ha made the call when launching the MIRC SME Development Blueprint (2008-2012) at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

The blueprint’s seven strategic thrusts include infrastructure, innovation, capability development, access to financing and promotion of new sources of growth, all crafted to meet the needs of SMEs.

“We aim to create more knowledge-based SMEs and move them towards higher value-added activities,” said Kong, who is the MCA new technology and innovation bureau chairman.

“We hope more SMEs will embrace innovation to position themselves favourably towards the global market through our programmes,” he said.
