Malaysian Firms Rake In US$2 Million Sales From Trade Mission To Thailand
BANGKOK, March 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysian companies participating in the recent "Specialized Marketing Mission on Products and Services" to Bangkok raked in nearly US$2 million in actual and potential sales.

"There is strong demand and interest from Thai companies, not only to source from Malaysia but also to have joint ventures with Malaysian companies," Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation's (Matrade) Trade Commissioner in Thailand Niqman Rafaee M. Sahar told Bernama in a recent interview here.

Malaysian companies generated US$69,000 in actual sales in personal care and medical tissue cell products during the trade mission held on March 1-4, he said.

The firms also raked in US$1.85 million in potential sales, mainly in halal central kitchen, online payment gateway, specialty chemicals, food paste, sugar collagen and future crops, he said.

"Further potential sales could be realised since Malaysian companies will follow up with further discussions based on market insights obtained from the visits and meetings," he said.

A total of 31 Malaysian companies with 40 representatives had also obtained useful market information on which to plan their marketing strategy in Thailand, he said, adding 217 business meetings were held with local players, with Matrade Thailand also arranging on-site visits and meetings with potential Thai companies as well as related ministries.

The marketing mission was held in conjuction with the visit by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed to the country on March 1-4.

Mustapa delivered a keynote address at a seminar on business opportunities in Malaysia and Thailand to some 550 representatives of the Thai business community, including from CP Group, Central Group, SCG Group, PTT Group, Thai Charoen Corporation, Berli Jucker Public Co Ltd, Central Pattana, Malaysia-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Thai Muslim Trade Association.

Several Malaysian and Thai companies also received awards from Matrade at the seminar.

Thailand's Praire Marketing Ltd received the Matrade Award-Importer and Distribution, while Melaka-based Perfect Food Manufacturing Sdn Bhd won the award for product branding and Ingress Autoventures Co Ltd for cross-border investment.

The International Partnership award went to Aapico Hitech Public Co Ltd, a Malaysian-owned company active in Thailand's automotive industry, with 5,000 employees and some 40 factories in the country.
