MICROSOFT Office 365 and Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s new UniFi packages are expected to allow Malaysian SMEs to benefit from technology and focus on their core business operations to increase their productivity and expand their market reach.

TM believes that cloud computing services such as Office 365 will help Malaysian SMEs to change the way they do business as the ICT needs of SMEs have evolved beyond just Internet connectivity.

Azizi A Hadi, TM’s executive vice-president for SMEs said cloud computing provides affordable solutions for SMEs to run business their operations effectively within budget and resource constraints.

“In this day and age, SMEs can utilise cloud computing for functions such as internal social networking, collaboration, a public website, communication, VoIP, conferencing and email,” he said.

A lack of awareness about new technology among Malaysian SMEs is one of the factors contributing to the difficulty in choosing the right solutions for their business needs, he added.

Azizi said TM is helping managers and business owners to embrace new technology with multiple business awareness programmes supported by Government agencies such as MDeC and SME Corp and technology partners like Microsoft.

According to Azizi, cloud computing capacity can be scaled up and down based on the needs of businesses. And with TM’s utility metering and charging model, SMEs can manage their costs by paying only for what they are using.

Thanks to TM’s dynamically scalable cloud solution backed by VADS Bhd’s cloud solutions and TM’s BizApp store, customers can turn capacity on and off in a very simple real-time order and provisioning process.

Compared to traditional hosting, the provisioning of IT resources over the cloud can be done in hours or days rather than weeks. Complex processes such as IT service management, service delivery and monitoring become easier to deal with.

Azizah Ali, Microsoft Malaysia’s director of small and medium solutions, said the collaboration between Microsoft and TM would bring about a stronger value proposition for local SMEs, even as Microsoft works to improve its offerings targeted at the SME sector.

“Many businesses are realising the power of cloud computing technology for its ability to leverage IT capabilities more cost-effectively, creating new ways to serve new customers, and even operating a business without IT limits. Microsoft’s Office 365 helps businesses take care of their IT needs so they can concentrate on managing and driving their businesses,” Azizah said.
