MDeC To Make Malaysia Regional Hub For Big Data Analytics
KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) aims to make Malaysia a regional hub for Big Data Analytics (BDA) in the next five years, driven by a series of events, promotions and awareness campaigns.

Its Director of Innovation Capital Division, Dr Karl Ng said three initiatives and plans would kick off this year, namely the Harvard Executive Programme, Big Data Week Asia and Asean Data Analytics Exchange.

This year, MDEC is focusing ?on awareness and adoption of BDA in key sectors, including telecommunications, e-Commerce, oil and gas, and retail, he told a media briefing here today.

To be held for the third consecutive year in September, the Big Data Week Asia 2016 would gather professionals to share knowledge and skills related to BDA and data security.

"Public interest towards this conference is growing. In 2014, we had 700 people (attendees), while last year, we managed to get 2,500," he said, adding that the conference targeted 3,000 attendees, including regional players this year.

Ng said for this year, MDeC introduced an online community portal, the "Big Community", which was aimed at bringing together individuals and organisations to move forward in the areas of BDA and data-driven innovation.

It can be accessed at http://bigcommunity.net, a one-stop online resource centre managed by Asia Online Publishing Group, for business leaders and enthusiasts to learn more about big data and its applications.

With MDeC's support in content development, interested users would be able to check out related events, job opportunities as well as thought leadership and educational stories from around the region.
