MDEC TO TRAIN 600 SMES VIA E-COMMERCE REWARD PROGRAMME
KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) is set to train 600 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) via its newly-launched e-commerce reward programme.

The programme, in partnership with Telekom Malaysia (TM) and easyparcel.my, is an initiative to raise SMEs productivity by doing business online and further boost adoption in Malaysia.

"E-commerce is a key component of the digital economy and its significance has also been recognised as a key information communication technology sub-sector in the Digital Malaysia," said MDeC SME Cluster and Initiative Director, Wee Huay Neo in a statement Thursday.

She said the programme would increase the country's domestic e-commerce revenue and ultimately raise SMEs' productivity through the digital means.

SMEs who are interested in the programme, which starts from June 12 until Sept 12 this year, can register with any of the three e-commerce training providers, namely, Lelong.my, MYNIC and easy.my.

The top 25 SMEs Digital Malaysia e-commerce success stories will be rewarded with prizes worth up to RM175,000.

The selection will be based on the highest revenue via e-commerce adoption, and highest number of customers during the three-month duration of the programme.

Through this programme, SMEs will be taught how to set-up an online presence, drive traffic to their sites which can be converted into sales, and use related programmes and partners to increase it.

Meanwhile, the e-commerce reward programme reflects a recent study on the internet and e-business adoption of Malaysian SMEs that MDeC commissioned.

SMEs recognise the need for a web presence but concerns over cost deterred them from establishing a website for their businesses.
