Showcase Malaysia Provides Direct Access To Malaysian Suppliers
BANGALORE, May 29 (Bernama) -- Trade exhibitions such as Showcase Malaysia here gives Indian businesses direct access to an array of Malaysian suppliers and manufacturers in a single platform.

It also provides the business communities from both countries a perfect opportunity for networking, Malaysia's High Commissioner to India, Datuk Naimun Ashakali Mohammad said.

"Thus, I believe, it will contribute to the objective of promoting trade and business relations between Malaysia and India," he said at the official opening of Showcase Malaysia Thursday.

This the fourth edition of Malaysia's solo exhibition in India. The last three editions of Showcase Malaysia was held in Mumbai, Pune and Chennai in 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively.

The three-day exhibition started on Thursday at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) and is open to the trade/business communities and the public till May 31.

Continuity and closeness are two words which best describe Malaysia's presence in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka state, said the envoy.

The implementation of Showcase Malaysia in Mumbai, Pune and Chennai also demonstrated the continuous interest and connection between the business communities of both countries.

"A number of Malaysian companies that joined us in the three cities previously are also with us here today. This shows the commitment and interest they have in doing business in India," said Naimun.

A total of 25 companies with varied business interest such as automotives, furniture, healthcare, wellness products, food and beverages, franchises and business services are participating .

Naimun highlighted the Minister of Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohammed's working trip to Bangalore earlier this year, which concluded with a business tie-up valued at US$10 million between Transit Power Labs and Malaysia's SKALI Group in the Information and Communication Technology sector.

He said it is essential to bring Malaysian companies to meet the business community in this city due to Karnataka being the manufacturing hub for some of the largest and finest public and private sector industries in India today.

Naimum reiterated that India is an important trading partner for Malaysia.

"The positive growth in bilateral trade between both countries and the presence of many Malaysian companies in India and likewise, demonstrates strong ties between Putrajaya and New Delhi," he added.

For the first quarter of 2014, total trade between Malaysia and India was more than US$3 billion, of which imports from India were recorded at about US$1 billion.

Of the US$13.4 billion trade with India in 2013, Malaysia exported goods valued at US$8.2 billion and imports stood at US$5.2 billion, with a US$2.9 billion balance of trade in its favour.
